St. Anne-Pacelli Catholic School Welcomes New Baseball Coach

St. Anne-Pacelli Catholic School announces the hiring of Case Rasmus as its new head Vikings Baseball Coach. Rasmus is taking the helm of the Vikings Baseball program from Adam Thomas, who is stepping down due to health reasons that require his full attention.

"We are grateful for the two seasons Coach Thomas led the Pacelli Baseball program. He not only taught our student-athletes how to be better players but also encouraged them to be better people," said St. Anne-Pacelli Catholic School Athletic Director Calvin Thomas. “The future of Pacelli Baseball is bright with Coach Rasmus joining our Viking family to lead the program. He is a very talented baseball coach and player, but his character and the relationships he has built with players really stood out to me during the interview process.”

About Head Vikings Baseball Coach Case Rasmus
Case Rasmus is a Phenix City, Ala. native who graduated from Russell County High School in 2008. That year, he was one of the most sought-after catchers in the state of Alabama. He went on to play baseball at Gulf Coast Community College, Northwest Florida State Community College, and Liberty University, a Division I school in Lynchburg, Va. Coming out of Liberty University, Rasmus spent four years in the St. Louis Cardinals organization, making it to Double-A. He was an organization All-Star in 2013 and was invited to Major League Baseball Spring Training in 2014.

After retiring, Rasmus returned to college to complete a bachelor’s degree in History from Troy University. He also began coaching the sport he loves. He started CR Baseball, a Christian-based baseball training facility located in Phenix City, Ala. From there, he coached nationally ranked travel baseball teams and many players who ended up signing to the college ranks. Rasmus also assisted the baseball program at Russell County High School for a number of years. In 2020, Rasmus was hired on at Southern Union State Community College. While at SUSCC, he was the recruiting coordinator and worked with the hitters, catchers and led the weight room program. Since his time at SUSCC, Rasmus has coached local teams as well as continued with his work at his CR Baseball facility.

“I am honored to follow behind Hall of Fame Coach Adam Thomas. To be a part of Viking Nation and help these young men grow in their relationships with Christ, as well as their futures on and off the baseball field, is the opportunity of a lifetime. I look forward to the future as a part of the Pacelli family!”

Rasmus and his wife of over 10 years, Shae, have two children: Ryker and Ellie Reese. His father, Tony Rasmus, played professionally for the California Angels farm system. His two oldest brothers, Colby and Cory, played in the MLB for the Cardinals, Astros, Orioles, Rays, Blue Jays, Braves and Angels. His brother Cyle played collegiately for Elon University and Columbus State University.

Pacelli students in grades 6-12 interested in playing baseball and their parents are invited to meet Rasmus during an interest meeting on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, at 6:30 p.m., at The Beck Center for Academic and Athletic Success, 1801 Box Road, Columbus, GA 31907.
