Meet Vikings Head Football Coach Dwight Jones
A veteran head coach, Dwight Jones comes to St. Anne-Pacelli from Russell County High School, where he's served as the Warriors' head football coach since 2016. Jones began coaching football in 1990 at Russell County High School, and his 28-year career has included stints at Hardaway, Northside, Harris County and Auburn. Jones says during that time he's had the opportunity to coach great players. "Many have gone on to play at the college level. Some have become head football coaches," he notes. "I believe I helped lay the groundwork for their successes." When asked what attracted him to the head football coaching position at St. Anne-Pacelli Catholic School, Jones quickly responds, "Viking Pride." He said he learned about "Viking Pride" from the late Nathan Rustin, who spent 27 years coaching football and wrestling at Pacelli High School. "The first coaching clinic I ever attended was with Coach Rustin. He taught me a lot about football and a lot about life. I am excited about the opportunity to experience 'Viking Pride' myself."
St. Anne-Pacelli Catholic School Athletic Director Corry Black says he hired Jones based on experience, leadership and because Jones is a "good person." "We couldn't have gotten a better football coach," Black says. "In addition to having a track record of developing players on the field, Coach Jones has experience helping kids become better young men. We are excited to welcome Coach Jones to the Viking family!"
