Solar Eclipse Prompts Early Elementary Dismissal and Delayed Middle & High School Dismissal
On Monday, August 21, 2017, a near-total solar eclipse will occur beginning in our area at approximately 1:05 p.m. EST and ending at 4:02 p.m. EST. The maximum eclipse will occur at 2:37 p.m. EST.
As a precaution, St. Anne-Pacelli Catholic School students in grades PK3-5 will observe early dismissal beginning at 12:00 p.m. Noon on Monday, August 21st to ensure all students and parents are off the road during most of the span of the eclipse. Lunch will not be served to elementary school students on August 21st. Our Extended Day Enrichment Program will be open until 6 p.m. for those students whose parents can’t pick up their students at Noon. Those attending Extended Day should bring a lunch from home. Extended Day students will be kept indoors during the time of the solar eclipse on Monday, August 21st.
Middle and high school students will be dismissed at 3:30 p.m. on Monday, August 21st. We will practice the viewing advice of NASA and American Astronomical Society, and provide ISO (International Organization for Standardization) approved eclipse viewing glasses for students to participate in outdoor viewing activities. In order for students to participate in outdoor viewing activities on August 21, 2017 parents must sign and return this permission form to 1st period teachers by this Friday, August 18, 2017. Those students who don’t have permission to participate in outdoor viewing activities on August 21st will watch coverage of the eclipse inside our High School Auditorium. Extra-curricular activities for middle and high school students will operate as normal after school is dismissed.
